Racked Review

Now Open: Gant, Olivino, Zaba, Vino Vino

Thursday, October 4, 2007, by Leslie Price

1) Gant: Sportswear brand Gant has reopened its Fifth Avenue flagship after a massive renovation, part of an overall facelift for the brand. It's clear from the looks of the place that they poured a lot of money into the revamp. From the press materials: "The centerpiece of the store is an open, four story curved staircase, crafted and resurfaced in pure white Corian, with the exterior volume finished in Venetian plaster. This volume of empty space, which has been nicknamed ‘the egg’, is immediately visible upon entry, and serves as the passageway to each floor experience." 645 Fifth Ave between 51st and 52nd Sts; (212) 813-9170 [Racked Inbox]
2) Olivino: Bed-Stuy continues to pull in retailers—the neighborhood's newest wine shop, Olivino, is an offshoot of a Clinton Hill store of the same name. Expect a well-edited selection of vinos, including many organic and sustainable wines. 426D Marcus Garvey Blvd at Macon St, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn; (718) 857-7952 [Bed-Stuy Blog; Brownstoner]
3) Zaba: Another precious children's boutique has opened in family-friendly Tribeca. Zaba sells clothing from brands like Fig Organic and Bluebird as well as toys. The merchandise looks really nice, but pricey. (85 Franklin St between Church St and Franklin Pl; (212) 226-6355 [NY Mag]
4) Vino Volo: People seem to love wine shops, so why not plop one inside JFK Airport? It's the fifth airport location for chain Vino Vino, which offers patrons the chance to taste wines by the glass as well as purchase bottles to take home. We're sure it's good for last minute gift or killing some layover time. American Airlines Terminal No. 8, JFK; (718) 995-8400
